Every day is a perfect time to celebrate women in our lives, however, the International Women Day on 8th March is one of the most important day to recognize their achievements and advocate for gender equality.
The first International Women’s Day was observed in 1911, and it has since grown into a worldwide movement that celebrates the progress made towards gender equality while also highlighting the ongoing challenges and inequalities that women face.
This is a global event that is celebrated annually to recognize the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. The day also serves as a call to action to accelerate gender parity and women’s empowerment around the world.
On this day we celebrate the women forging change , elevate women in the digital space, and encourage employers to build work places that thrive and improve equality for women in tech.
The theme for International Women’s Day changes each year, and there are often rallies, marches, and other events held to celebrate and advocate for women’s rights and gender equality
This year International Women’s Day theme is DigitALL: Innovation and technology for gender equality. According to UN Women, women’s accomplishments have been against all odds, in a field that has historically neither welcomed nor appreciated them.
A report by Un Women adds that 22% Women make up only 22 per cent of artificial intelligence workers globally. 44% A global analysis of 133 AI systems across industries found that 44.2 per cent demonstrate gender bias. 73% A survey of women journalists from 125 countries found that 73 per cent had suffered online violence in the course of their work.
In addition, a persistent gender gap in digital access keeps women from unlocking technology’s full potential. Their underrepresentation in STEM education and careers remains a major barrier to their participation in tech design and governance. And the pervasive threat of online gender-based violence coupled with a lack of legal recourse too often forces them out of the digital spaces they do occupy.
